New Media Douchebaggery

A friend pointed me to this video about new media douchebags. I thought it was good, so I’m sharing it :P

I actually hope to become a new new media douchebag when POOPing finally replaces blogging.

Here is another good one too:

Night Elf Mohawk Fool!

So, I’m a WoW addict. I make no denials. I’ve been playing since release (just about), and don’t see myself stopping anytime soon. This leads me to browsing all sorts of WoW related Web sites. I freakin’ love wowhead and wowinsider, and I’m there daily. From time to time I even venture to the official site.

Today was one of those days where I visited the official page and I was pleasantly surprised. Turns out Blizzard is making some WoW commercials featuring celebrities. The first two are William Shatner and Mr. T! You can check them out on Blizzard’s site:

“…maybe Mr. T hacked the game and created a mohawk class…” Priceless

Game Pit?!? I’m SO jealous

I saw on the chronicle that Northern Virginia Community College has a “Game Pit”. I would love to have something like this at our campus. Here is a short vid about it:

Game Pit

It doesn’t seem like it’s being used for research or academic reasons, and that doesn’t bother me in the slightest. They’re using it for community building. They identified something that students needed and met that need. I want my library to do this. We’re already a major hotspot for students, and they’re not all here studying. The library, for them, is a place to come while they have time between classes so they can socialize, check email, watch youtube, send pokes on facebook, etc. Why not let them game?

I’m sure a gaming lab could be used for teaching and learning too. I mean, we have a game design program here. We have faculty teaching courses in digital games. I’m sure a gaming lab could support those instructors and students. How about people interested in studying things like violence in games, social impacts of gaming, games as educational tools? They’d use the space too.

Anyway, it probably won’t happen. It’d be cool and libraries aren’t allowed to be cool, amiright? ;)

Best Web 2.0 Video ever

I stumbled upon this gem that was posted on Digg. Great video explaining Web two-point-oh. So much better than that Maching is Us/ing Us one.

*note:  apparently the video got taken down :’(  I’m hunting for it…

This is not a blog. This is a P.O.O.P.

Posted in POOPs on November 9, 2007 by tankboy

Ok, so first things first. I hate, nay despise, the word “blog”. There was a time at my old library where it seemed like the solution to every problem was to have a blog. Most people offering up that solution didn’t even know what a blog was but were fairly certain that because the library world was abuzz with the term that it had to be the right thing to do. So, in every committee-taskforce-team-panel-roundtable-group meeting I attended (which was roughly 22.86/week) for a solid year, my ears were assaulted with that oh so unpleasant sounding word: blog.

For that reason, this isn’t a blog. It’s a Personal Online Ongoing Publication or POOP. There won’t be any blogging here — only POOPing. I don’t blog things. I POOP them.

This is my first attempt at POOPing. I’m hoping to post things about gaming in higher education (especially what that has to do with libraries), but I’m not restricting myself to that topic specifically. So who knows what kind of stuff you’ll find on here…
